InterContinental Tampa Takes Environment to Heart with Green Initiative
Hotel Awarded 4 Green Key Rating
Tampa, Fla., April 4, 2011.)– InterContinental Tampa is pleased to announce that it has achieved a 4 Green Key rating through the Green Key Eco-Rating Program.
A 4 Green Key rating demonstrates that the InterContinental Tampa has shown national industry leadership and commitment to protecting the environment through its wide-ranging policies and practices. The hotel has mature programs in place that involve management, employees, guests, and the public, and which have shown substantial and measurable results.
InterContinental Tampa was recognized for sustainable practices including energy and water conservation and efficient use, relevant training and education and “eco-purchasing.” Additional programs include donating untouched food items to local food banks, the use of local, organic foods on the menu and an Energy Star for hospitality. The hotel is committed to these practices through a formal, written action plan that is reviewed and revised at least once per year and through the formation of an environmental committee.
“It is important to us as a company to build environmental programs into our daily culture and keep them top of mind when improving on our current product or when implementing something new,” said Mary McCarthy, director of engineering.”The end result is a better, cleaner, more socially responsible product for our guests to enjoy.”
